no need for an expensive beauty salon

i wouldn't classify myself as high maintenance, although my husband would probably disagree.
i enjoy having my nails done every once in a while, and yes i'm admitting it, i'm not a natural blonde.

i know, shocking right?!?
i wouldn't call it high maintenance, more like i enjoy looking "put together".
let's face it ladies, looking "put together" cost money.  more money than i care to spend.

i've found some really amazing at home beauty tips that actually work.

#1 how to be a blondie.
oh hey who is that brunette?
yeah that would be yours truly circa 2005.

and yes that's my natural hair color.  not a huge fan of it, so i decided to become a blonde.
spending 50-100 bucks at a beauty salon every 4-6 weeks got outrageously expensive,
so i found an at home highlighting kit that works wonders and it's cheap!
revlon frost & glow in platinum
price $6.99
this kit gives me the perfect blonde without looking brassy and orange.
and a bonus, *it's easy*

so what do i do when my roots start to grow out?
well i'll show you!

sun in hair lightener in lemon fresh
price: $3.00
all i do is section my hair into peices and spray the roots.  then i take a blow dryer on high heat and blow dry until no longer wet, and ta-da blonde roots.

#2 how to do an at home pedicure
how i wish i could have someone give me a pedicure every week.  yeah well, i'm not rich and famous.  not sure about your neck of the woods, but around here pedicures run about 20-30 dollars.
so i do my own.

what you will need:
nail polosh remover
nail clippers
nail file with buffer
olive oil
hot water
large bowl
coconut oil
your favorite nail polish

step 1
remove any remaining nail polish.  i use onyx professional nail polish remover.  it works the best and it's only $2.99 a bottle.

step 2
after removing nail polish trim and file nails to desired length.

step 3
wash feet with soap and warm water.  mix 2 tablespoons of sugar with a small amount of coconut oil (enough to make a paste).  scrub feet with sugar mixture for about 30 seconds to 1 minute.  rinse and dry with a towel.

step 4
use nail buffer to buff nails.  when finished rinse well to get any remaining residue off.

step 5
mix 2 tablespoons of olive oil, half a cup of milk, and 3 cups of warm water together in a large bowl.
soak feet in bowl for about 10-20 minutes and relax.  this would be a great time to enjoy a glass of champagne ;-)

step 6
rinse feet after soaking and towel dry.  now you're ready to paint.  start with a base coat and let it dry.  after base coat is dry, start with a thick stroke in the center of your nail, and work your way out to each side.  repeat with each nail.  if an additional coat is needed, do the same thing again.  add a top coat to each nail and sit back and admire your work.

#3 how to keep a pretty face
important right?  especially with my face, because i suffer with acne.  bad acne.  i hate it!
i use a homemade scrub for my face about twice a week that works wonders for my skin.

here is what you will need
coconut oil
baking soda

i mix equal parts of the coconut oil and baking soda until it creates a paste.  i wet my face with warm water and then use the coconut oil scrub in circular motions all over my face.  i let it sit for about 2 minutes and then rinse with cold water.  the cold water helps reduce the redness and helps to close your pores.  i then let my face air dry.  i immediately start seeing results!

so there you have it ladies.  my at home beauty tips.  now if you have nothing to do tomorrow, i suggest you print this out, and have an at home spa day.
you're welcome!

everybody's a critic

i was introduced to a lovely site called get off my internets yesterday.
a friend of mine was featured on the front page, and being the nosy southern belle that i am, i decided to do some investigation.

i read the article about how the creators behind this wonderful site disagreed with what my friend posted about.
the article wasn't what got to me though, it was the 100 plus comments below it that really got me going.

as i started to read each comment i found myself getting more and more upset.
their comments were rude, hateful, and just downright hurtful.

i did some research on this site yesterday after reading the article and the comments, and i was quite shocked at what i found out.

one of the creators of the site actually sat down for an interview with ifb, also known as independent fashion bloggers (a site with fashion news and blogging tips).
the author of the articles states that editors of GOMI use the site to critique and examine the posts and the personalities of the bloggers.

that's all fine and dandy.  and here is why i say that.  as bloggers we are all writers, and when you are a writer you have to accept the fact that not everyone is going to enjoy what you write.
i do agree with the creators of the site on that.

like hank moody from californication says, if you're gonna be a writer, you gotta learn to take the criticism.

there is a difference between constructive criticism and verbal abuse, and this site goes far beyond constructive criticism.  now i will say that not everything on that site is bad, and yes some of the articles i read were indeed constructive criticism, but some of the members of that site take it way too far.
calling bloggers dumb, idiots, and other words that i care not to say on here, is verbal abuse and slander.
it's hurtful!
i even got a few hateful comments and emails myself.  most of them stated that i was dumb, a fake southerner, and that my blog had horrible content and that i sounded like i was 12.
yeah that's not what i would call constructive criticism.

so anyway where am i going with this post?
i do believe in constructive criticism.  i think it can be helpful, and i appreciate it.  does it mean i'm going to change everything that others don't like?  no.
it's my personal blog space and i can write what i want.
in a wierd way i am kind of thankful for the drama on that site yesterday, because it did generate a ton of traffic to my blog :)
so thank you GOMI!

unfortunately everybody's a critic, and most of them are going to be very blunt and honest,  and in the words of hank moody, if someone doesn't like what you wrote, throw it in a drawer, get drunk and write something else.

So for those of you wondering... How do you giveaway 6,000 followers???
Well I'll tell you...
it's primarily something businesses use to increase their online presence, gain credibility, and look more established.  A social media company is hired to help them get their business out there to their audience via targeted ad campaigns, email blasts, and to their own network of followers via incentive based promotions etc... directly to their specific target market.

Say you're current twitter followers are at 25... it will be increased to 6,025!
The hired social media company will find and peak relevant followers interested in following you - not robots.
Disclaimer: These are real live followers provided by a legit social media company not 1 cent robot fakes
*this is no different than advertisers buying ads in magazines trying to get their brand out there.*
**This is not a scam**

Now this is going to be an aggressive contest!  I mean how could I say no to all those beautiful ladies above?  I couldn't.  So now's your chance to rack up all the entries humanly possible!
Remember the more entries the have the more your odds of winning increase!

*The winner of this sweepstakes will not be published.  I will screenshot the rafflecopter random winner and contact you personally as to how you would like to move forward.

i'm lovin the new bruno mars song treasure.  if you haven't heard it, do yourselves a favor and hit play below.

we have 2 1/2 months before we go to mexico!!!  all the margaritas and pool time i can get.  this girl is pumped!

the fact that it's the first official day of summer!

this look.  love the lace shirt with the adorable coral skirt.

my nail color right now.
china glaze, shocking pink.

happy first day of summer :)

why a healthy lifestyle is so important & a meal plan

living a healthy lifestyle is not only good for you, but it will save your life!
better lifestyle habits will reduce your risk of many diseases.
not living a healthy lifestyle can lead to heart disease, cancer, and obesity

the national institute of health states that 4 of the 6 leading causes of death are linked to an unhealthy lifestyle.

there are 2 main factors why americans live an unhealthy lifestyle:
1.unhealthy diets
2. lack of excersise

here's a fun fact for you:
the united states ranks #1 in obesity in the world!
and honestly i'm not even that shocked.
americans are busy individuals.  we're so caught up in everyday life that anything fast is our go-to.  if it's easy to get, we'll get it.
that's why fast food is so popular in our country.  it's something quick to grab when we're on the go.
if you want to read a scary post about fast food click here.

lack of physical activity is a biggie.
the center for disease control states that only 48% of americans ages 18 and over, are physically active.
that's less than half.

so what is the reason for this post?  to make others out there aware of these statistics and hopefully change the lives of other women.

i thought that today i would share with you a typical daily meal plan.
my goal is to help others get healthy!

now i'm not perfect and yes i do cheat.  but most days this is what i eat.
some of you may be saying "um jennifer, that doesn't look tasty at all"
ladies, there are so many ways to prepare food, and make it taste amazing and still make it healthy.
be creative ;-)
there are also so many websites out there with a ton of healthy recipes.  check out the dashing dish.
this woman is amazing!  her blog is something that i think all of you would LOVE, and plus she has some AWESOME recipes that are both healthy and delicious.

now remember that just eating healthy isn't going to get you the maximum benefits.  physical activity is a must!
this can be anything from going on a walk, to jogging, or even joining a local fitness class.
there are even small workouts that you can do from home!
i know that a lot of gyms will give you a free personal training lesson as well, so that is definitely something to check out.

let's work together to make our world a healthier one.
i love you all and i want to see each and every one of you succeed and live a healthy lifestyle.
if anybody ever has any questions or help trying to come up with a meal plan, or even questions on what to buy at the grocery store, please don't hesitate to ask :)
that's what i'm here for!

throwback thursday ~ before the days of texting

Here's how it works....

oh today's gonna be a good one so you might wanna grab a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, and be prepared to laugh.
so remember the days before texting?
you know, the days where you would pass stupid little notes back and forth?
yes, you know exactly what i'm talking about.
well this girl right here just happened to save most of her silly little notes and i've decided to share them with all you lovely ladies today.

let's take a look at these first.
matt myers.  my first "real" boyfriend.
i thought i was the shiz for dating a junior football player.
girls i had it goin on, and apparently he wasn't all about showing public affection...

let me translate that for you...

hey baby (oh it's serious, he's calling me baby), how is your day going? well my day has gone great. well it got better when i saw you this morning. (awe how sweet)
i got a question for you. do you like showing of public affection (uh, what?). as in me kissing you at school (oh ok, glad i understand now). see i'm not exactly all for it (then why are you asking me?). sometimes i think you want to kiss me, but you don't.
anyway, now that i've got that off my chest. (oh ok well that's nice)
well i better get off here. i'll talk to you at lunch.
(see it was serious, we were in love)
matt m.

and another...

hey, how's it going? pretty good here, just chillin (without the g) in class, two tables behind you. (stalker)
so why are you so shy around me? i'm just wondering because you don't need to be. (well thanks for making me feel better)
i know the way you feel toward me (damnit who told you?), and that's kool. (you mean cool with a c?)
well i guess i'm gonna stop writing this gay note

matt myers

are ya peeing your pants yet?

now this one is from my bestie julia who will probably kill me for posting this.  sorry friend.

hey gurlie (you mean girlie?) what's goin on? ok... so we know your weekend we great, but what happened?!? (i don't know, what did happen?!? must have been good) hehe you and d-man are so absolutely kute (with a k) i'm realli (uh oh misspelled really) happy you found someone that's sweet to you like him. so does he have any kute (there's that k again) friends? jk, but anywayz (with a z),,, all this stuff going on w/ erica is crazi (that's crazy with an i) bs. lol. that's one thing i can't stand about franklin... everyone takes things way too far and its always stupid stuff. OMG (still happens at 27)
i cannot wait until summer hehe. panama baby haha (was that supposed to be funny?). how long and when are you gonna be in montana? you are gonna be realli (really with an i) tan (i don't think you get tans in montana) LOL LUCKY!!! (again montana and tans don't mix) dude i have no dang idea who i like. i started to like nick valdex this weekend (started to? did you finish?) but they're moving at the end of the school year (oh that's why you didn't finish "liking" him) so that wouldn't work out *tear* HEHE (julia just likes to laugh at everything) oh you need to download angel by amanda perez.  it's an awesome song.  but it reminds me of mark (don't remember who mark was) LOL (there she goes with the laughing again) just listen to it and then i'll explain why LOL (ok we get it, everything is funny) well i'm gonna go, so i'll talk to you later.

<3 always

this is for you julia gulia HEHE ;-)

brace yourself loves.  i'm switching things up a bit.
i feel like it's time to do a little exploration in blog land.  i came across miss april's blog today and she has a super cute linkup she's doing called spill about your love.
if you haven't come across her adorable blog, you're missing out.  and she's an nc girl like me so extra brownie points ;-)

so here we go...

{1} Describe your dating life prior to finding your husband/boyfriend/fiance.
{2} Describe your husband/boyfriend/fiance in one word. How would he describe you in one word?
{3} You had a really silly fight. Embarrassing silly. What was it about?
{4} In three sentences (and only three!), describe where you both hope to be in 5 years.
{5} Tell us something about your husband/boyfriend/fiance we wouldn't know from reading your blog.
{6} What's one thing you never thought you'd do in front of your husband/boyfriend/fiance, but you did?
1.  oh boy.  well in high school i had a different crush every week and thought i was in love with every one of them.  college was a little different (we won't go into detail, this is a g/pg rated post) haha

2. hmm one word to describe my husband.  probably "responsible" .  sounds silly i know, but if you knew my husband you would know why i say that.  he is super organized, great with money management, a responsible and loving husband.  if he had to describe me in one word it would probably be complicated... i'll even admit that myself.
3. ha there have been alot of these.   probably the silliest was when i got him kicked out of a bar.  i of course had a few too many alcoholic bevs, and thought another girl was "flirting" with him and just flew off my rocker and made a fool out of myself.  definitely made a huge scene and got him kicked out.  shame on me i know :(

4. we hope to be in a bigger house.  hopefully we'll have a couple of kids by then.  and we'll be even more in love than we are now.

5. he's like a woman when it comes to getting ready.  he'll spend 30 minutes picking out his outfits.
but he always ends up looking handsome, so i don't complain ;-)

6. fart.
haha sorry i had to go there.

hope on over to her blog and say hi!
and don't forget to link up with me, ady, and lo tomorrow for our weekly throwback thursday linkup!

1. hanging out at the hubby's work event.  becky and i didn't plan on being twins lol.
2. i think i like champagne because it's pretty..
3. our pot turned ice bucket.  it actually worked pretty well.
4. hot tub time with my faves.
5. i spent saturday at a country club soaking up some sun with my bestie sara and her adorable daughter lilah jane.
6. lilah bug and aunt jennifer.
7. love that little face!
8. hanging out by the pool.  it may be small but it's water and it's cold.
9. the nieces having a blast.

how was your weekend?

things that bug me about blog world

oh the lovely community we call blog world.
it has it's ups and down.  some days i love it and some days i'm so mad i could scream.
there are a TON of things that i think need to change in this little community and it's time for someone to stand up and speak their mind about some things.

i've been serious about this "blogging" thing for about a year now.
it's a way for me to express my feelings (like i'm doing right now).  i love having my own cute little space on the internet where i can make it look anyway i want, and if i can make money in the process, so be it!

blogging can be very intimidating, especially if you are just starting out, which is why i think that some of these things need to be said.
now i'm not trying to upset anyone or point fingers, but i think it's time we all start playing nice, playing by the rules, and to stop making the blog world such a competition.

here we go...

#1 blog world is like high school all over again.
sadly the blog world is just an extended version of mean girls.  i'm talking about blog cliques.  the popular bloggers and the not so popular bloggers.  everyone is trying to sit at the "cool" table at lunch.  and most of the time they aren't allowed...

#2 some bloggers are rude
there is nothing i hate more than rude people.  i can't tell you how many times i've commented on a post of a big time blogger and never got a response from them.  and this has happened multiple times.  it's rude!  now i understand alot of these big time bloggers get a ton of comments in a day, and there will be times when they are unable to reply to every blogger that leaves a comment.  but if a blogger is asking you a question on your blog post and you never respond, that's a problem.  like my girl stephanie tanner says...

#3 link ups ~ they have rules
this is a biggie.  link ups are a fun way to hop around and meet new bloggers.  it's how i gained the majority of my followers.  up and coming bloggers use link ups as a way to get their name out there in the blogging community.  there are a few rules that i think should be established when it comes to link ups.
1. if you are going to link up for something, make sure you write on a topic that has to do with the link up.  i can't tell you how many times we've had someone link up with us who writes a story about something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what the link up is about.
2. if you are going to start hosting a link up, please do the responsible thing and make sure that nobody else has already created the same link up.

#4 no-reply bloggers ~ let them know!
most of the time, bloggers don't realize that they are a no-reply blogger.  when i first started out, i had no idea that i was until a sweet fellow blogger left a very nice comment on one of my posts telling me that i was.  she also went out of her way to leave instructions on how to change it.  if you notice that someone is a no-reply blogger, let them know.

#5 followers ~ everyone is trying to up their numbers
for all of those who say they don't care about how many followers they have, you're lying.  it's true!  why do we join link ups?  to gain more followers.  why do we follow other blogs?  so hopefully they will follow us back.  i try my best to search around for new bloggers who may not have alot of followers and i'll follow them.  i remember when i first started out, it meant the world to me when a bigger blogger followed my blog!  and every morning when i log in and see that my numbers have gone up, it's like a high!  so do the right thing and help an up and coming blogger out.

let's all try and do a better job of being there for each other.  this is a "community" not a popularity contest!
rant over
enjoy your weekend!!
