a real eye opener- the dangers of fast food

so i came across a new blog yesterday that i think you all should check out.
it's called butler, party of 2.
danielle is the woman behind the blog and she is AMAZING!
while stalking her blog yesterday, i came across a post about fast food that really opened my eyes about what i'm putting in my body.

after reading her post, i decided to do some of my own research on fast food and if it really is THAT bad for you.
i quickly found out that... it is!

we've all done it.  at 12:00 pm when our stomachs are rumbling and we just don't feel like fixing anything to eat at home or work, we jump in the car and head over to mcdonald's or some other fast food restaurant for a quick lunch. 
we as americans are lazy.  we want everything handed to us.  the quicker the better, so why not just stay and in your car and be served through a drive thru window?
it's easy and convenient.

fast food is DANGEROUS!  yes it might taste good at the time, but you are doing more harm than good to your body.

why fast food is so bad for you:

1. it's low in nutrients.  most fast foods contain little or no vitamins, or other important nutrients.  if fast food is what you eat the majority of the time, you are most likely consuming empty calories, which means you are getting little to none of your daily nutrients.

2. it's high in fat and calories.  fast food items contain very unhealthy saturated and trans fats which can raise your cholesterol levels.  an average healthy adult who is moderately active should consume no more than 2,000 calories in a day and no more than about 40 grams of fat (which i think is a little high anyway).  below you will see just how many calories are in a regular sized big mac meal with fries and a coke.

3. it contains large amounts of sugar.  sugar and high fructose corn syrup are considered to be the highest contributors of obesity in the united states.  an average adult should consume no more than 30 grams of sugar per day (as said by the american heart association). so just how much sugar are you consuming when you visit a fast food restaurant?  see for yourself:

4. it doesn't decay!  no joke.  i did the research.  check out some of these photos and see for yourself.

do the research for yourself.  you will quickly change your mind the next time you are tempted to go to that drive thru.

now there are some healthier options on fast food menus. you can go to any of their websites where they list their entire menus and nutrition facts.

it's time for a change.  who's with me?


  1. I agree with that! My uncle bought a house and was re-doing the kitchen and found a big mac in the structure and it looked like it was just served.. the house was also 15+ years old.

  4. Hey Jennifer! I am totally with you on this. I have a degree in Food & Nutrition and everything you said is SPOT ON! Good job. I wont lie, I love Chick fila but I treat myself to chick-fila once every couple of months...and I get the wrap. I'm not perfect. We all have our vices. But I do so in strict moderation.

    Giving up fast food will cleanse pepople's minds too. Putting that crap in your body not only makes you fat but makes your mind work in weird ways. It promotes laziness and obesity. I will be very strict with my children when they are young about what they eat. I don't want to start bad habits off early and I WILL NOT BE ONE OF THOSE MOMS WHO STOPS FOR HAPPY MEALS AT MCDONALS. I can guarantee you that.

  5. I haven't eaten fast food in 6 months and I feel great! The proof is that feeling you get right after you eat it. Yucky! And so not worth it! Thanks for posting this! Helps me keep up the good habits!
