things that bug me about blog world

oh the lovely community we call blog world.
it has it's ups and down.  some days i love it and some days i'm so mad i could scream.
there are a TON of things that i think need to change in this little community and it's time for someone to stand up and speak their mind about some things.

i've been serious about this "blogging" thing for about a year now.
it's a way for me to express my feelings (like i'm doing right now).  i love having my own cute little space on the internet where i can make it look anyway i want, and if i can make money in the process, so be it!

blogging can be very intimidating, especially if you are just starting out, which is why i think that some of these things need to be said.
now i'm not trying to upset anyone or point fingers, but i think it's time we all start playing nice, playing by the rules, and to stop making the blog world such a competition.

here we go...

#1 blog world is like high school all over again.
sadly the blog world is just an extended version of mean girls.  i'm talking about blog cliques.  the popular bloggers and the not so popular bloggers.  everyone is trying to sit at the "cool" table at lunch.  and most of the time they aren't allowed...

#2 some bloggers are rude
there is nothing i hate more than rude people.  i can't tell you how many times i've commented on a post of a big time blogger and never got a response from them.  and this has happened multiple times.  it's rude!  now i understand alot of these big time bloggers get a ton of comments in a day, and there will be times when they are unable to reply to every blogger that leaves a comment.  but if a blogger is asking you a question on your blog post and you never respond, that's a problem.  like my girl stephanie tanner says...

#3 link ups ~ they have rules
this is a biggie.  link ups are a fun way to hop around and meet new bloggers.  it's how i gained the majority of my followers.  up and coming bloggers use link ups as a way to get their name out there in the blogging community.  there are a few rules that i think should be established when it comes to link ups.
1. if you are going to link up for something, make sure you write on a topic that has to do with the link up.  i can't tell you how many times we've had someone link up with us who writes a story about something that has absolutely NOTHING to do with what the link up is about.
2. if you are going to start hosting a link up, please do the responsible thing and make sure that nobody else has already created the same link up.

#4 no-reply bloggers ~ let them know!
most of the time, bloggers don't realize that they are a no-reply blogger.  when i first started out, i had no idea that i was until a sweet fellow blogger left a very nice comment on one of my posts telling me that i was.  she also went out of her way to leave instructions on how to change it.  if you notice that someone is a no-reply blogger, let them know.

#5 followers ~ everyone is trying to up their numbers
for all of those who say they don't care about how many followers they have, you're lying.  it's true!  why do we join link ups?  to gain more followers.  why do we follow other blogs?  so hopefully they will follow us back.  i try my best to search around for new bloggers who may not have alot of followers and i'll follow them.  i remember when i first started out, it meant the world to me when a bigger blogger followed my blog!  and every morning when i log in and see that my numbers have gone up, it's like a high!  so do the right thing and help an up and coming blogger out.

let's all try and do a better job of being there for each other.  this is a "community" not a popularity contest!

rant over
enjoy your weekend!!

  2. All of this is veryveryvery true and I took a blogging break because the mean girls got to me and the popularity contest made me feel sick.

Well, now I'm back and I just try and ignore it.
Yes, I will be the first (and probably only one) to admit that I am worried about the numbers and by July 1st, my 300 some turns back into less than 100.

I need to let that part go, it's hard. And just blog for ME.

Gosh this was a long comment!

  7. Hi! I am a newborn when it comes to this whole blogging thing. Just consider me that newborn calf stumbling around learning how to walk when it comes to the ins & outs of this stuff! Could you maybe explain how to make sure I am not a "no reply" blogger?

    Thank You!

  8. See I was going to say that some bloggers WANT to respond to comments, but the blogger is no-reply...and then you addressed that too (:

  14. This is very true! Unfortunately, some of it is not so positive. But blogging is so much fun! That's the main thing that keeps most of us going :)

  17. No-reply bloggers and people who don't link up properly are two of my biggest blogging pet peeves. I also hate big time bloggers who are too good to respond to comments.

  18. I'm glad you posted your feelings on the matter. I've been blogging for about four years now (and I STILL don't have a lot of followers. Blogging has changed A LOT!! Some good, some bad and I'm just trying to evolve with it as best I can. I still love blogging so I try not to let all the "stuff" get to me but I do post about it now and then. Sometimes I wonder if a noreply commenter wants to be. I always preface with that when I tell a no reply commenter that they are. Maybe they don't want to engage? They will also not get reply comments. I like to communicate and I think most of us do but I wonder if some out there don't want to so they will not feel obligated to reply to emails.

  20. I found your blog because of the picture Wifessionals posted on Instagram. I'm so glad I did. I have the exact same feelings you do about blogging. I may be a small blogger, I may not post a lot, but I truly love blogging. When I started I had NO IDEA how the blogging world was. There are so many things that I really don't like. The drama is the big thing. I'm sorry that a "bigger blogger" took your link-up idea. I've seen this happen so many times. I'm going to link up with you on Thursday and I'm going to make sure to mention you to any of my readers for my post tomorrow (Wednesday)! Not that I have a ton of readers but I'm lucky enough to have a lot of smaller bloggers who are nothing short of amazing. Thank you so much for posting this.
