all about coconut oil

is coconut oil the new fad in beauty products?

let me tell you some of the benefits that i've found of coconut oil and then you can answer my question...

many of you know that i've struggled with acne for a few years now.  not fun!  i'm an adult not a teenager.  with my struggles came hours and hours of trying different remedies.

i finally started using dermalogica products and that seems to keep it calm (most of the time anyway) but the best results came when i discovered this amazing product called coconut oil.  yes coconut oil!
we found a jar at TJ Maxx for 6 dollars!  it's usually 15 at our local grocery store.
now to get the full benefits from this amazing oil, you need to get the virgin/ unrefined version.  i use the refined version from time to time, but the best results happen when i use the virgin.

for my face i use a few different techniques with coconut oil.  for a scrub i mix a tablespoon of coconut oil with a little bit of baking soda (enough to make a paste) and after i rinse and my face is dry i use the coconut oil for a moisturizer.
i have also used it as a mask by mixing a teaspoon of coconut oil with a little bit of nutmeg and honey (again enough to make a paste) it's messy but so totally worth it!  it smells amazing, and after you take the mask off it's almost as if your face is glowing!

so not only do i use coconut oil for my face, but i also use it for so many other things.

1. shaving cream
2. lip balm
3. hand cream
4. cuticle softener
5. hair mask
6. hot oil hair treatment
7. eye makeup remover
8. hair detangler
9. eye cream
10. body scrub (mix with sugar)

studies have also shown that the intake of coconut oil can help our bodies fight off viruses and bacteria!
so see not only does it make you beautiful, but healthy too!

i'm telling you!  you can't go wrong with this product.  it's saved my life (ok not literally, but it's definitely made me one happy girl)

wine country

if you're from a small town like i am you probably feel the same way i do when it comes to finding stuff to do on a boring saturday.
we have a few options to choose from.  we could go out to eat at the local fast food joint, or go hang out at the only bar in town.
well those options get pretty old.

so today i want to share with you a hidden gem that we found in the mountains of north georgia.
a little place we like to call wine country.

we stumbled upon this area a few months back, when my mom introduced it to us.  she had been down there and loved it!  so on saturday we decided to head down to dahlonega, ga and have ourselves a day of wine tasting.
dahlonega is about an hour away from franklin, and it's about an hour north of atlanta, but the drive is gorgeous!
if you live in this area and are looking for something to do on a saturday and you love wine, this is the perfect place to go!

there are a few different wineries to choose from but our favorite is wolf mountain vineyards.

and this place is pretty cheap too!  this time of year is their slow season so they only offer one flight of tastings which consist of about 7 different wines.  it's only $10 a person and totally worth it.  it's a great atmosphere and a great place to meet people!  we stayed for a good 2 hours and had a blast!

it was definitely much needed day away with the hubby!  we loved it so much we're going back again this weekend :)

in need of happiness

shame on me for neglecting my blog.   i told myself at the beginning of january that i was no longer going to neglect my wonderful blog that i have worked so hard on.

what is wrong with me??  i know exactly what it is... i'm in another thing i like to call a "slump".

on tuesday i was sitting at my desk doing my usual facebook stalking, when i saw an article that a friend posted about a dog.  not just any old dog, a dog that spent many months in a shelter and kept getting ignored by most everybody who walked by his kennel.  the picture is what did it though.  as soon as i clicked on the link for the article, i saw it.  the image of a sad dog in a corner with his head down.  that's when it started.  the tears automatically started falling down my cheeks.  REALLY?!?
really, is something this small really making me bawl like a baby?  and then it really hit me.  everything that i had been holding in for weeks finally came to the surface.  sadness, hurt, hormonal issues, marital issues, money issues... should i go on?

after the tears came anger.  i was angry at the world, angry at my husband, angry at the weather (for keeping me away from work so i don't get paid) and most of all angry at myself.

that's probably the hardest thing admit is that you are angry with yourself.  usually i try to blame it on others, but blaming things on myself is a whole different story.

most of you probably know that i've always struggled with hormonal issues.  i was diagnosed with pmdd about a year ago.  and for those of you who are not aware, pmdd stands for "premenstrual dysphoric disorder" or in other words, "the crazy hormonal bitch 2 weeks out of the month" disease.

so between that, the weather, being sick, and no money coming in... i've been a complete mess!  and my poor husband is feeling the rath.

so after my crying episode the other day, i decided i needed to get out of this slump that i've been in.  i made another appointment with my therapist that day, came home that night and gave myself a facial and a manicure.
the next two days were snow days for us.  we weren't going anywhere in ten inches of snow.  so me and LT just laid around and relaxed for a couple of days.  very much needed rest :)

so from today on i'm going to be focusing more on making myself happy, and strengthening my relationship with my husband.
and it's time to stop neglecting my blog.

so to all of my blogger buddies out there, i've missed you, and happy valentines day :)
